Nutritionist

I had a really interesting meeting yesterday with the nutritionist. She gave me lots and lots to think about and also is going to send me through options of supplements that may be helpful and possible blood tests to determine food sensitivities and allergies. In the meantime though, there are things that she suggests I do right away, for example cutting out caffeine entirely (and she means entirely - noooooooo!), putting the laptop down at least three hours before bedtime (apparently the glare of the screen really messes up melatonin levels) and increasing protein in my diet. She says I need to have protein as part of every meal, whether that is in the form of nuts, pulses, fish, tofu, eggs, fish or meat. Oh, and she commented that I eat too much tropical fruit which is filled with sugar and could be giving me an energy spike just when I don't need it. But clearly she is unaware that it is mango season and it's just impossible not to gorge on the things (just joking - I will cut down if I have to - though reluctantly ;))

Anyway, all good stuff and she's going to be working this morning on sending through written advice to help me plan meals a little better to include more protein. Another thing she said, which made me laugh, was "Rebecca, I think you need to take a deep breath." Clearly she could see I'm over here on a mission to get this insomnia sorted, but she's concerned I may be putting too much pressure on that and there is, after 10 years of this, no quick fix solution.

But, would you believe, I may have a streaming nose this morning from this chilly weather, but I have slept for 3 nights in a row, without the need for sleeping pills. What's going on? Answers on a postcard! X
